Mini dress ZARAFA

Paris,1827- the walk that changes a season.

Sale price€4,900.00

 THE OGIRIN

In October 1826 a giraffe arrived at the port of Marseille — a diplomatic gift from the Viceroy of Egypt to Charles X of France. She walked the remaining nine hundred kilometres to Paris on foot and was presented to the King. She was the first ever seen in France. Within a season the country was covered in her: wallpapers, porcelain, printed cottons, hair dressed to imitate her horns. One of those printed cottons survives today in the Victoria and Albert Museum.

THE MOTIF

Black on cream, as it was originally printed: ferns, birds caught mid-flight, giraffe, trees. The feathers follow the same caravan route she did, down the Nile to the sea.

The dress is made to measure. We kindly ask you to give us 5 weeks to embroider it for you.
